Well Carl, the only argument I'd like to make is against the sword. There are such things as curved blades.
I really liked this little story. It was something with a different pacing than the norm.

Calling it a mystery is very generous, there's pretty much no buildup and everything is explained immediately after the "climax" of it happens. That sword in the last panel is really poorly drawn, and hardly even resembles a sword-like shape. The shadow under the table shouldn't be there, and the shadows behind the characters should be far longer. Story-wise the girl suddenly being happy to share the stolen food makes no sense at all, considering the pirate just apparently robbed her family blind. Her pose also makes no sense, and is just a stock Rumiko Takahashi pose being misused.
